Afghanistan '11 - The Quest for the Light Infantry Mindset

Afghanistan '11 is such a brilliant game that makes me want to put it through its paces. I am a big fan of William Lind's work and one of his recent books is just about fighting insurgencies. So here I go for a short open question.

Oh yeah. The Taliban show up in mass against my forward operating base.

Falcon BMS - Balkans Theater of Operation for BMS 4.33 U3

Have you tried this theater of operations for Falcon BMS? If you have not been following Falcon BMS lately, there were some very nice updates on the 4.33 version (the so-called U1, U2 and U3). You will need to be up to date with the U3 in order to be able to play the Balkans.

That being said, here are some snapshots of my first mission for the "Under Siege" campaign.

Syrian Warfare - When Controversy is Your Only Asset

Syrian Warfare is a so-called "realistic" RTS that has been sold via Steam until it was removed because of some copyright infringement issues.

The Panzer Battles Demo Packs a Lot of Variety and Content

From the beaches around the Alligator Creek estuary in the Solomons, through the troop- and fuel-eating expanses of the Ukraine, the unforgiving sands of the desert in Lybia and all the way to the bucolic pastures and crops west of Brussels (what a beautiful place to fight in a tank!), you will get a chance of leading Allied or Axis troops in WWII battles.

Hannut, South East of Brussels: May 13th, 1940. A beautiful scenario in which you command a German tank brigade. Don't get fooled, the French have more than that tankette seen at the edge of Lens St. Remy.

DCS: AJS37 Viggen (Beta) - Screenshots and Quick Look

The beta for the AJS37 Viggen, developed by Leatherneck Simulation has been out for more than a week. This version of the Viggen is an attack aircraft in essence, featuring a very nice array of weaponry and capabilities. And, yeah, it is very photogenic.

In this blog post, a quick look at the DCS Viggen. More screenshots than anything else ...

Combat Mission Game Engine 4: Withdraw Zones in the Scenario Editor

One of the cool features in the new game engine is the possibility to have the computer opponent to withdraw its forces towards a destination.

Pull back! According to the manual: "By shift-left-clicking on the map, AI Groups can be ordered to Withdraw while moving towards their movement destination. Vehicles will move in Reverse to the destination ..."
This computer-controlled US tank destroyer has been assigned a move zone back away from the screenshot. The US vehicle pulls back in reverse while throwing a smoke screen hiding him from a specific point in the map (the distant gap in the treeline) called a withdraw zone.

Steel Armor Blaze of War - Attack by Fire

I have this gameplay, non-edited video takes of my ongoing operation against the Mujahideen in Helmand.

X-Plane 11 (Beta)

Have you tried the beta for X-Plane 11? Here is a video of my landing at a very popular airport in Argentina.

Make sure to watch it at YouTube (better resolution).
X-Plane 11 has a better user interface (still a bit too nerdy but at least your controllers show up in the set up screens), the trademark surface-based flight models and off course gorgeous views.

Cheers,
