DCS 2.5

I just fed DCS with another SSD. And it was worthy.

The long awaited 2.5 engine was release last week and it features some radical improvements over any of the previous versions.

In the video below (please ignore the hicups due to my usage of a regular hard drive) you will see that is not just the looks. Performance is better, the trees are collide-able and non-transparent to computer-controlled units.

And yes, the feeling of flying, fighting and bombing over a real place has never been like this.

That video is from a flight over an scenario that I hope to release in the future.

Cheers,

Slightly off-topic: Was the Mirage 2000 ever fixed? Do missiles work? Would you recommend me getting it?

Thanks - You're my primary source of DCS updates. I've had it for many years (and long before that, when they started with Black Shark). Hell, I've been flying their stuff all the way back to the original SU-27 Flanker -> Flanker 2.5 -> LOMAC -> FC1,2,3.

Sheesh!

Hi Erich,

Good question. I don't know ... I left a while back and came back to it recently. Although I see significant changes implemented, I would be a poor judge. In particular about weapons, because I haven't fired a single missile from the M2K since back then.

I recently updated my PC and I will be reloading this module pretty soon. You just made me curious.

Cheers,

DCS: Wish I had more time, like I did in my 20's (but all I had was my Amiga 500 from college). Now I've got all this incredible hardware and software, but so little time to explore it. Example: I never did have a chance to look at the new IL-2 series, despite owning everything they made (I try to support these niche products). But I always end up back in something like IL2 1946, simply because I already know all the controls by heart.

Thank God for ARMA 3, right? Sure, the vehicles are arcadey, but at least I've got a fighting chance (pun alert) of actually doing something with them in the minimal time I have allotted. I love how that game can be played as either a thinking man's Call of Duty, or you can really get down into the weeds and treat as a serious mil-sim.

Sorry for the rambling ;)

Hi Erich,
I hear you. Free time is precious ...
The new generation IL-2 series offers you a lot of that quick but meaningful fun we look for. Just a minimum investment setting up the controls (1 hour tops).
Arma 3, I agree a lot. Quick and easy to have serious fun.
Keep it up, sir. Summer is around the corner.

Cheers,
